Dispatch from the train to Copenhagen
By the time you read this I will most likely be back in Berlin already
It’s my 4th letter to you (mum, dad, M., J., or whoever is still reading this, thank you) and I’m not sure I like the format that I started with…
So this week I will try a more casual note.
I’m sitting in the train, the danish country side flies past me. It’s only 4:30pm but the sun is already low on the horizon, random strips of pink along the grey overcast sky. I like taking the train in the evening, it has a particularly nostalgic feeling to it - like flying in planes over the clouds and feeling especially emotional because you’re leaving one place to return to another.
I just spent four days in my favourite city, Copenhagen, with my favourite people - H. And M. and baby Ebba (and Seb, did I forget Seb?!). I got to experience so many things, eat so many pastries, share many laughs and have important, life affirming conversations with some of my closest friends. We’ve been to Copenhagen many times and usually Seb and I stay at M. and H.’s cosy place out in Brønshøj. We actually don’t really do much more than visit our favourite cafes or bakeries, cook meals together and either stand in the kitchen chatting or sit on the big sofa watching a movie together. I cherish this time a lot, because I feel so at home with M. and H. and our friendship, so much that I really feel like I can sit back and relax and there is no need to perform.
Highlights from this trip this time are too many to count but below are some photos and linked cafés that are worth checking out if you find yourself in CPH ;)
Lille bakery out at Reffen for a delicious snack or five, before visiting Copenhagen Contemporary
Juno bakery, for the best almond croissant I’ve ever had - worth the ~20 minute wait in line
Coffee Collective for the best coffee ALWAYS, be it a batch brew or a flat white. I especially love visiting their Torvehallerne or Frederiksberg shop
This weekend I also learnt (again) that old friendships can be such a treasure. Friendships that deserve to be treated in a special way - you don’t know each other that well and you don’t often get the chance to see each other, but when you do you can spend hours talking and it feels like no time has passed at all. I’m a big fan of romanticising your life so I like to imagine there are people in your life that you can keep coming back to and the friendship exists in a vaccuum of the space and the time that you see them. And that may only be once every few years. I’m very aware of how contradicting this sounds, because I realise that friendships take work and get better the more time and effort you put into them, but this time around, for a short few hours I really relished in living in a bubble whilst catching up with O., talking about everything and nothing, before returning back to my “Alltag” in Berlin.
I got a bit of really nice feedback regarding my weekly diary-esque ramblings, I appreciate every little comment or question - this is still very new to me but I really want to continue honing my craft or figuring out how to share my genuine excitement for life’s little moments. If you have any questions or prompts or tips for me, shareeeee please!
Lotsa love x
